And two men who are having them. Pramod Mahajan in re Godhra and L V Saptharishi in re Chapra. Why so late - several years in Mr Mahajan's case and a year in the latter's case? The wheels of politics grind slowly but surely I suppose. Or do they? What exactly is Mr Mahajan saying that has got the Indian Express so worked up - here and here? He is blaming civilised society (of Gujarat, presumably) for the riots: the people did it and they should be ashamed of themselves. He notes that the BJP was in power both at the centre and the state - but he hands out no blame to it, only a feeling of regret. Or maybe he blaming the party too but in a careful and suitably vague manner that will allow a bit of wriggle room on the talk shows. Who knows!
And only three regrets? And one of them not being able to build the Ram temple? He is writing for the party faithful - in BJP Today. That explains it.
As for Mr Saptharishi - he is very late. However, there is a way out to check if he in fact did not recommend "countermanding elections in the entire constituency" in his report. Make it public so people can read and judge for themselves.
